I’ve created a cocktail for our 2022 New Year’s Eve Film-Fest! Inspired by the classic Last Word cocktail, [who isn’t thinking about last words when watching murder mysteries?], I built a killer drink around one of my new favourite bottles: Amaro Nonino Aperitivo. This will be my swap for the Last Word’s Green Chartreuse [don’t have a bottle!]. And, of course, I added smoke by subbing someone’s favourite mezcal for the traditional gin [because who doesn’t expect at least one “smoking gun” in a Sleuthapalooza?] And I’ve upped the lime considerably. What remains? The cherry, natürlich!
Et voila! A Gat in the Hand
My cocktail is named for a famous line from Raymond Chandler’s The Big Sleep:
“You’re the second guy I’ve met within hours who seems to think a gat in the hand means a world by the tail.”
Enjoy!
