Now this is card party! Tonight, we’ll clear the tables out of the living room and play old-school card games on the carpet, with music, funny paper hats, and some DIY Holiday Bridge Mix.
What’s Bridge Mix? A mix of nuts, dried fruits and chocolate covered candies. While some people think the term “Bridge mix” derives from the candy-mixes served at bridge tournaments, I prefer the interpretation that See’s Candies’ Bridge Mix may have begun as rejected candy bits that were pulled from ‘the bridge,’ a mechanical conveyor belt.
What will our Holiday Bridge Mix consist of? Well, that depends on what the kids want to pick up from the local bulk place. Likely, it’ll be our favourite nuts, [we’ll skip the dried fruit, thank you!], pretzel sticks or popped corn, and red & green M&Ms, with malt balls, mini O’Henry bars, or peanut butter cups thrown in “on balance.” [I’m going to make my own personal bowl of pecans and 95% dark chocolate. Cause that’s the way I roll.]
What card games will we play? Rummy, Pinochle, the mysterious Durak…? Or perhaps we’ll finally teach ourselves bridge and make it FUN!
Update: Here’s a look at the kids’ bridge mix creations!
