Fall Planner 2021

If you thought SSJ was largely made of Love-To-Do-Lists, you were right. Here are 47 things I’m looking forward to fitting in to Fall 2021. Why 47? Because it’s an excellent number! I’ve thrown in a few explanations as I see fit.

47 Things for Fall 2021

“Apple Picking” at the Farmer’s Market
A drive to our favourite orchard might not be possible this year, so we’ll be supporting local.

Back Deck Fairy Lights
Squirrels have eaten right through our twinkly outdoor lights. We’ll be in search of something sturdy as an alternative.

Bird, as in, Go Birding

Black Licorice Tour

Bring Plants Indoors without Killing Them

Call the Plumber!!!
Okay, so our under-mount kitchen sink has basically fallen out of the mount…. and we need to make the outdoor hose accessible… #FunwithGus

Carve my Signature Pumpkin

Chimney Cakes
Actually, T & I made these for a class project earlier this week. We used this recipe, but we baked them on foil-wrapped soda cans and Arizona Tallboys per a youtube tutorial. 3 of 4 made it – and they tasted good! The fourth puddled down and baked into a skirt.

Cookbook Club
Whether it’s an I-cook-through-this-cookbook-by-myself situation or I invite people to do a cook-along, I’m bound and determined to use my physical cookbooks, at least one-per-month, this fall. LMK if you wanna join.

Cove Swim and Witchy Bonfire

Discover Dahlias
So many gorgeous dahlias in my neighbours’ gardens! I’m going to read up on their proper care so that I can incorporate them into the garden next year!

Eggplant Deep-Dive
Because I’m obsessed. Recipes forthcoming.

Embroider the Constellations

Experiment with Session Cocktails
Low to no alcohol content makes for longer nights of frolicking and casting spells.

Explore New Walking Trails

Extended Writer’s Retreat

Find a New Perfume
I might already have a go-to fragrance, but I’d like to go on another “perfume tour” of the city with friends, read more about scent, and choose something unusual to add to my Christmas list this year.

Finish Learning the Thriller Dance

Free Jazz Playlist
In university, I was a Jazz DJ. Time to update my range.

Front Porch Zsoosh
I usually skip fall decorating and go straight for the evergreens. This fall, I think we need to get into the mums and asters and pumpkins and things….

Go Foraging

Hand Score a Baseball Game
We may not attend a Jays game, but I’m bound and determined to use my special scorebook to keep track of one, with a hotdog and a beer on hand.

High Tea in the Woods II
With tarot cards?

Invent a Pie (or Several)
Because, why not?

Keep Lifting Heavy

Ladies’ Weekend Getaway
Four vaccinated women, one cottage, four days.

Late Night Full Moon Beach Walk

Learn to Quilt

New Piano Pieces

1980’s Baked Potato Bar
I really am just weird, sometimes.

Novel Home Stretch
So close I can almost sing with it.

Order and Plant Bulbs

Peking Duck à la Rose et Jacques
Revisiting an early-married-life favourite.

Plan Advent (or its Alternative)
Alternative? What?

Poetry Chapbook

Rear Garden Cleanup & Redesign

Record a Song for Jon S’s Xmas Marathon
“Fum, Fum, Fum?”

Reinvent Thanksgiving Dinner

Research a New Sewing Machine
Okay, so the sewing machine that basically caught fire two years ago is refusing to work again. And I refuse to sink another several hundred dollars into maintenance. I probably won’t get to all of those indie patterns I’d planned to sew until I level up. But I’m going to be smart about my research into models from this century. Looking for all your tips and tricks!

Scary Movie Week

Send Care Packages
Because the first one’s off at university, and I’m not an asshole.

Soups and Salads FTW

Sunday Times & Newspaper-Inspired Sketching of All Kinds

Take Long, Luxurious Baths

Tree Maintenance: Consult an Arborist
It’s time for a professional to come and trim the backyard Acer and Magnolia trees. I’m also wondering about replacing the crabapple with (my dream-tree) a white flowering dogwood.

Unusual Fall Canning
Time to try something completely out of my wheelhouse. What that is, I’m not sure….

#Wyrdshed Party
Or, a series of backyard shenanigans like no other.
