AND THEY’RE OFF…
After failing to complete ANY of my fall sewing projects, I took an official hiatus over the winter holidays. Now, as the sun’s coming out, I’m inspired once again. I’ve been crushing HARD, and I mean REALLY HARD [can you hear me whinnying?] on some amazing local designers who make slow, ethical fashion. Unfortunately, even their sale prices are FAR out of budget. I doubt even a lucky day at the races would cover it. So, I’m going to make a few locally-inspired pieces using some of the amazing indie patterns I’ve already purchased or plan on picking up in the next few months.
A PREVIEW OF THE FIELD AND MY PROPOSED CHANGES
AND NOW, MY SPRING 2021 #MAKENINE

A FLIGHT SUIT & TWO YOKED BLOUSES
The closet-core Blanca Flight Suit in a red-rust linen, with gold or brass zips, perhaps with floral linings and/or a silk or floral “tuxedo stripe” up the sides of the legs. @sewintothis on Insta has an amazing version!
Another Wiksten Tova top, but in silk or rayon floral, with my now-signature tweaks: a lined back and front yoke. This time, with pearlized buttons up the front, and perhaps a higher collar.
Another Friday Pattern Company Sagebrush Top, in silk or cotton floral, but minus the ruffle, and with a square collar hack.

A RUFFLY DRESS & TIMELESS TOPPERS
The Chalk and Notch Marcel Dress, but perhaps with the ruffles extending 360 around the dress and an absolutely horizontal band across the bust [as opposed to to the gentle curve] in a bright red or a shiny black cotton blend.
For chillier days, the Friday Pattern Company Cambria Duster, but with the square patch pockets and the notched collar of their Heather Blazer, in a tweedy grey, a soft leopard, or a blissful baby pink wool.
I’m also looking forward to making the cropped version of the Papercut Patterns Sapporo Coat in something textured, possibly by upcycling an Ikea blanket or by quilting. It will definitely feature a bright lining!

SUITS THAT FEEL LIKE PAJAMAS
Remember that Zara pink suit that was everywhere a few years ago? I’m STILL thinking about it. So I’m planning to make a FLAMINGO PINK SUIT of cotton or linen using the Friday Pattern Heather Blazer and both a wide [not pictured] and narrow pair of the Closet Core Pietra Pants. And I’d like an additional breast pocket as well as big bow-tie closure instead of a button at the waist! [Majorly crushing on @euclidean ‘s hot pink version on Insta.]
And why not a suit in light blue stretch denim, also? I’ll be making yet another pair of my fave lengthened Pauline Alice Romero sailor trousers in stretch denim, with sailor buttons a really cool floral lining. Perhaps with a second, coordinating Heather Blazer?
WHICH WILL BE FIRST PAST THE POST?
