Carols and Cookbook Club II: WPRB Xmas Stories and Diana Henry
For the musical portion of our Sunday, we’re going to be working on finishing up a secret “Xmas Story” to contribute to Jon Solomon’s 25-hour Xmas Radio Show on WPRB Princeton. While some Xmas Stories are, indeed, stories, words spoken, this year we’re trying to make an old Catalonian carol into something more in the vein of the Misfits or the Ramones or maybe, the Ex. It’s a secret, so I’m not even posting the title here. I will, however, provide an update after the 25th.

As for the “Cookbook Club” portion of our Advent Sunday, we’re delving into Diana Henry’s recently reissued, Roast Figs, Sugar Snow. I love a winter cookbook, and this book is winter on fleek. I was so excited about the reissue that I used the occasion to level up on my old ebook with a hard copy. If you know how limited my cookbook shelf space is, you’ll know this is a keeper.
Today, we might try the Champ and the Pumpkin tarts with spinach and gorgonzola. Oh, but the onion and cider soup and Alsatian tarte flambée are calling. I’m also eyeing a few of her fish recipes for our big Feast of Seven Fishes on Christmas Eve.

Updates
This morning, we decided on our menu:
Onion and Cider Soup with Melting Camembert (16-17), Tartiflette (20-21), Georgian Lamb with Damson Plums and Walnuts (140-141), and Snow Cookies: Danish Gilded Stars (170-171).
This evening, we feasted:
Every SINGLE dish was AMAZING! I’m giving myself a 10/10 and 20/10 to Diana Henry! And noted: if you ask your cheesemonger for Reblochon, they will invariably ask you if you’re making Tartiflette! 🙂 Can’t wait to choose more dishes from this book for our Feast of the Seven Fishes!
