Today we will be making holiday postcards using the Pochoir Printing Method!
Pochoir, French for “stencil,” is a technique in which an artist uses hand cut stencils and a stippling brush or sponge to build layers of colour and texture onto the canvas or page. Above, you’ll see an example by Miro!
Tonight, we’ll be Pochoir Printing onto watercolour or mixed-media postcards. We’ll be using cardstock or thicker paper for the stencils, acrylic paint and perhaps other paints/inks for colour, and stippling brushes and perhaps a few chopped up sponges as tools. These Pochoir Prints will become our 2022 Christmas Correspondence. We’ll likely veer towards the abstract as opposed to trying to depict a realistic Santa in a sleigh, etc…but you never know.
