Thermos Wassail

We’ve had this tall green one-litre thermos on hand long before the 2024 Stanley trend. It keeps liquids hot for more than 24 hours, which is absolutely outrageous! Since we’re making Wassail today to bring on our Solstice Sunrise Walk, we sized our family Wassail recipe to suit. This recipe is alcohol-free, but you can easily add your tipple of choice by decanting into the mug from a separate traveler as you’re on your merry way.

Thermos Wassail

Our family's favourite Wassail sized to fit our ~1 Litre/1 Quart Thermos.

Ingredients

  • cups apple cider
  • ¾ cups orange juice
  • cup fresh lemon juice [juice of half a good lemon]
  • 1 large slice from the centre of an orange
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 6 cardamom pods, slightly crushed
  • 6 whole cloves
  • ¼ tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ginger
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg

Instructions

  • Place all of the ingredients in a medium saucepan and bring to a simmer over medium-low heat.
  • Simmer for 30 to 40 minutes.
  • Pass the mixture through a sieve into the thermos, using a wide-mouthed funnel, if desired.

Notes

Feel free to vary your spices!
When serving, if so desired, add a shot of your favourite spirit or alcohol-free spirit to your mug [rum or whiskey flavours, for example].

Hot Wassail!

Enjoy
