Welcome back to SSJ & Welcome Spring!
Like many of us, I’ve been longing for Spring weather and Spring gatherings. This morning, I had the chance to preview the Spring 2025 One of a Kind Show at Toronto’s Enercare Centre, Exhibition Place. There, I chose 10 items from the show’s all-Canadian line-up of artisans which most answered my longing for all things bright, cheerful, and blooming.

Greenhouse Room Spray or Candles from Brightfield, Booth D-19 (From $32)
Imagine brushing your hands on the first true leaves of a young tomato plant just sprouting on your windowsill. Then, layer that with the scent of your favourite perennial geranium. Now, add a hint of vetiver and basil. Brightfield has captured this magic in their Greenhouse room spray and candles.
Feeling Fuchsia Woollen Work Tote from STE.MARG.SCOT, Booth N-06 ($398)
Put this bright woollen work tote on SSJ’s most-wanted list. STE.MARG.SCOT calls itself the “joyful wool company,” crafting everything from hand-cut woollen floral brooches (from $48) and stylish work totes to iconic heritage jackets. This Canadian brand is committed to zero synthetics, no plastics, minimal waste, and preserving local craftsmanship. Their mission is to brighten dark days by reconnecting people to colour and nature.

Strawberries and Cream Ice Cream from Four All Ice Cream, Booth A-20 ($60 for 4 Pints in a Cooler Bag on Dry Ice)
Stopping for fresh ice cream is a Spring tradition in our family! At the show, you can visit Four All Ice Cream for their local, Canadian made pints packed in cooler bags on dry ice! They start with A2 Guernsey cow milk, small batch pasteurized in Kitchener, ON. They source their always-gluten-free ingredients from small farmers, local coffee roasters, distillers, and brewers. And they offer a variety of plant-based flavours to cater to all dietary preferences. SSJ is full-on Team Strawberry!
Botanical Ornaments from Studio Fresh Press, Booth O-44 (from $20)
Sara Wetmore’s botanicals preserve Spring flowers throughout the four seasons. Her homegrown cut flowers make their appearances pressed under glass, in large-scale art pieces, and printed on tea-towels and greeting cards. As a geranium lover, I couldn’t take my eyes off of a certain specimen under glass. Studio Fresh Press calls these “ornaments” but they’d also make a great addition to a gallery wall.

Mugs from Valerie Daoust Ceramics, Booth I-07 (from $35)
What a joy to stand in front of the shelves at Valerie Daoust ceramics. It felt like spring had sprung. In addition to her confetti splattered mugs (left), Daoust displayed a wide array of pastel stripes. I think my fave shades were a soft pink and a yellowy orange. I can’t wait to go back and test the feel and weight of the big mug, the mid, and the mini.
Flared Pink Wrap Dress From Signed by Dahliah, Booth H-50 ($565)
One look at the fabulous balloon sleeves at the Signed by Dahliah booth, and I was smitten. Drawing inspiration from her Jamaican heritage, designer Courtney Reid is influenced by Jamaica’s picturesque landscapes, its pastel street art, and the assortment of plants and flowers grown in her grandmothers’ gardens (both in Jamaica and in Canada). The design and technique involved in creating these spring frocks make them well worth the splurge. Signed by Dahliah also offers floral earrings from approximately $35.

Smash Eggs from Acorn Chocolates, Booth C-19 ($34)
Nothing epitomizes the season like an Easter egg. And Acorn Chocolates‘ bright orange and blue-green smash eggs are getting us right in the mood. Crack into chocolatier Morgan Whelan’s hand-painted milk and dark chocolate eggs to discover Easter candies aplenty, including small cookie-chocolate bunnies.
White Lotus + Peach Candle from Lawrencetown Candle Co., Booth E-50 (from $22.99)
Piperrr Naaauuuuerrr!! A White Lotus + Peach staycation might be a little safer than the escapades on the Mike White HBO series. Lawrencetown Candle Co. wax melts and candles are hand poured in small batches in East Lawrencetown, Nova Scotia, right near the beach, using eco friendly 100% Soy Wax and premium fragrances free of parabens and phthalates. So juicy!

O.G. Chili Oil from Rippah Chili Oil, Booth A-31 ($18 for 8oz)
Spring is not Spring without a little SPICE! And Rippah’s aromatic chili oil is infused with a blend of Southeast Asian inspired flavours, striking that fine balance between citrusy, sour, umami, and smoky. We plan on using it as a finishing oil, a base for fried eggs, and a topping for popcorn, as sampled at their booth at OOAK.
Mother’s Day Cards from Wild Life Illustration Co., Booth N-05 (~4 for $25)
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: Kayoko Kowano’s love of the natural world is ever present and effervescent. This year, her Wild Life Illustration Co. floral Mother’s Day cards caught my eye! There are all kinds of mothers in this world, many of them who won’t own or don’t think they can claim the title. Here’s to celebrating the people who’ve really done the mothering in your life.

The Spring 2025 One of a Kind Show runs from March 26 to 30 at the Enercare Centre, Exhibition Place, in Toronto.
