Charcuterie Chalet & St. Lawrence Market

It’s Christmas Eve Eve! And, apparently, we’re just learning, Charcuterie Chalets are a thing? They’ve been all over TikTok and social media for years, now. Costco even sells kits! Actually, they’ve been around since the late seventies, at least. Check out the above sandwich-slash-meat house from a vintage copy of Chatelaine.

How in the heck did we miss this scathingly brilliant idea? As lovers of a good meat and cheese board, we are prepared to rectify this scathing gap in our holiday doings post haste. Today, we’re going on our annual trip to St. Lawrence Market to gather the last of our supplies for our Christmas Eve Feast of the Seven Fishes. So, while we’re at it, we’ll pick up some supplies to make a Charcuterie Chalet.

Obviously, we are BEHIND THE TIMES. So, we’re not going to post a CHARCUTER CHALET DIY or anything close, here. Like our improv embroidery session last week, we’re just going to WING IT. Some soft, spreadable cheeses, some hard cheeses, some sliced deli meats, and several types of large-format crackers will likely do the trick. And we can add yesterday’s savoury Parmesan Shortbread discs to the mix. I suppose if our construction skills are house-of-cards-in-a-windstorm, we could use a prefabbed gingerbread house as a base. But I don’t think we’ll be that desperate. “Let hope keep you joyful,” as they say.

I’ll post the results on socials if they’re decent 🙂

This brings me back to that night in 2020 when we made a gingerbread reproduction of my own little #wyrdshed.
