INDIE BOOKSTORE CRAWL
“O wonderful, wonderful, and most wonderful wonderful! And yet again wonderful, and after that, out of all whooping.” – As You Like It
I’ve been waiting for this event with all the anticipation of a kid on Christmas morning! In place of our long-standing Advent Family Book Exchange, we’re going out on the town for an Indie Bookstore Crawl! As a family, in small groups, or solo, we’ll visit our favourite independent bookstores across the city, including second-hand and comic bookstores, and finish up our Christmas shopping.
Some of our favourite local independent and second-hand bookstores include:
Queen Books at 914 Queen East, The Great Escape at 975 Kingston Road (closed Mondays), The Scribe Bookstore at 375 Danforth, Ben McNally Books at 108 Queen East (closed Sundays), The Beguiling, 319 College, Flying Books at 784 College, and Type Books at 883 Queen West. This list is by no means exhaustive, nor may we guarantee a visit to each one.
Of course, we’ll have a few guidelines:
- Across the entire crawl, each family member may purchase a maximum total of 2 books, or 1 oversized/deluxe book, from the family kitty/on their parents’ dime.
- Only one of the books purchased from the family budget can be for yourself. Although, you don’t have to buy anything for yourself.
- Anything beyond the two allotted purchases on this crawl must come out of each family member’s personal savings.
- And, on this crawl, it is highly recommended that books purchased from one’s personal funds should be purchased more for giving than for keeping.
- Please consider donating one of your purchases to a local gift drive or charity accepting books! Do your own work in identifying this organization.
- Also, please consider using the one-in-one-out philosophy and donate one of your own unused or gently used books to a good cause or to a little free library in order to make room for your new books.
Oh, and while we’re at it, we’ll want to take photographs of our favourite bookish storefronts for an upcoming project!
NOW GET ON YOUR BOOTS AND GET CRACKING!
