Popover Practice and Many Hands of Euchre

Things we do with friends…

I. Popovers

One summer, I went to a friend’s lakeside cottage and one of our hosts made us popovers for breakfast, served warm and steaming, with a pat of butter and a jar of local chopped cherry jam. This is one my of my favourite sense memories. I’d like to try something similar on Christmas morning. With this in mind, this morning, we’re going to make some practice popovers. We’ve got the highly-recommended Chicago Metallic 6-well Nonstick Popover pan, and we’re going to try the America’s Test Kitchen recipe I’ve embedded at the very bottom of this post.

II. Euchre

Since this fourteenth day of SSJ Advent has us dwelling on the things we’ve enjoyed going with friends….We’ll also play many Euchre in one or many of its forms: 2-handed, 3-handed, 4-handed and more. We’ll scour up our packs of cards and consult Euchre.com or Hoyle’s for the official rules.

Popover Results

Our first batch went off without a hitch. Then, we decided to go off book and use the leftover buttermilk from Wednesday’s Fried Chicken day to make a second batch. We’ll be altering this recipe slightly and publishing it next year!
